Iyama Takes Kisei, First to Achieve Six Crown!

  Iyama Yuta wins his first Kisei title, defeating the defending title holder, Cho U by 4-2. The sixth game of the 37th Kisei title match was played in Shizuoka prefecture on 13 and 14 March 2013. Taking black, Iyama won by resignation after 197 moves.
  Cho U could not win his fourth consecutive Kisei title.
  Lots of media and press came to interview six crown’s holder!

The full results of the series are given as follows:
  Game 1 (17 & 18 Jan.): Iyama (white) wins by 5.5 points
  Game 2 (31 Jan & 1 Feb.): Iyama (black) wins by resignation
  Game 3 (6 & 7 Feb.): Cho U (black) wins by resignation
  Game 4 (21 & 22 Feb.): Cho U (white) wins by resignation
  Game 5 (27 & 28 Feb.): Iyama (white) wins by resignation
  Game 6 (13 & 14 Mar.): Iyama (black) wins by resignation

  Iyama has become the first player to hold six top-seven titles simultaneously. He accomplished this feat by defeating Cho U 4-2 in the 37th Kisei title match. His other five titles are as follows: the Hononbo, Tengen, Oza, Gosei and Judan.

Iyama Also Completes Grand Slam!

  Iyama not only became a sextuple title-holder but also became only the third player, after Cho Chikun and Cho U, to complete a grand slam of the top seven titles (Kisei, Meijin, Honinbo, Tengen, Oza, Gosei and Judan).
  Iyama also becomes the youngest player to achieve a grand slam! The first player to achieve a grand slam was Cho Chikun in December 1987 at the age of 31 years six months. Cho U accomplished it at the age of 30 years one month. Iyama pulled it off at the age of 23 years ten months!

Hsieh Defends Women’s Meijin

  Hsieh Yi Min wins her sixth consecutive Women’s Meijin title. The second game of the 25th Women’s Meijin title match (three-match series) was played on 13 March 2013 in Kyoto. Hsieh defeats the challenger, Okuda Aya 3-dan pro, by resignation after 163 moves and defends the title with straight wins by 2-0. Okuda could not get her first title.

The full results of the series are given as follows:
  Game 1 (7 Mar.): Hsieh Yi Min (white) wins by 5.5 points
  Game 2 (13 Mar.): Hsieh Yi Min (black) wins by resignation

Daiwa Shoken Cup

  Daiwa Shoken CupYuki Satoshi 9p won his first Daiwa Shoken Cup. The final game of The 8th Daiwa Shoken cup was held on 23 March in Tokyo between Yuki Satoshi 9p and Takao Shinji 9p. Yuki (Black) won by 3.5 points against Takao.
  Daiwa Shoken Cup is an internet tournament and becomes an official tournament from the 8th edition.
